Cardiac Maternity
Cardiac maternity services in the North West are based at three main centres. These services provide specialised care for women with significant cardiac conditions before, during, and after pregnancy. They are based at:
- St Mary’s Hospital Manchester (The Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire GMEC)
- Liverpool Women’s Hospital (Cheshire & Merseyside C&M)
- Blackpool Victoria Hospital (Lancashire & South Cumbria L&SC)
The services at St Mary’s and The Liverpool Womens are also jointly run by the ACHD cardiology team and specialist nurses in our region who have expertise in supporting ladies with complex congenital heart disease
How to make a referral:
Referrals are coordinated by Maternal Medicine Centres (MMCs). These are based at:
4. St Mary’s Hospital Manchester (The Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire GMEC)
5. Liverpool Women’s Hospital (Cheshire & Merseyside C&M)
6. Royal Preston Hospital for Blackpool referrals (Lancashire & South Cumbria L&SC)
Referrals can be made via the North West Maternal Medicine Network’s website by visiting this link. Each MMC has a different and unique referral process. The link provides information on how to refer and how to contact someone in an emergency. If clinicians are not sure which centre to refer an ACHD patient to – you can also call the ACHD Cardiologist on call via the switchboard at Liverpool Heart and Chest for advice 0151 600 1616.
